‘Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour’ review

Taylor Swift

The new concert film on Netflix starring pop queen Taylor Swift is a must-see whether you’re a fan or not.  It is shot at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas where the Dallas Cowboys usually play.  The ‘Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour’ included sold-out crowds of screaming fans (mainly girls) around the world and was the highest grossing concert of 2018.  It generated more revenue than the Metallica tour.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it, heavy metal fans.  When the 29-year-old takes the stage in a sexy black leotard with a hoodie over her head, the crowd goes wild.  The ‘Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour’ is now playing exclusively on Netflix.

The Arlington shows were the last stop of the tour before it headed overseas.  The pop diva spares no expense impressing her loyal fans.  It’s an amazing sight to behold when the cameras pan to the audience.  Thousands upon thousands of fans sing along to every song.  You really get the sense of how talented she is when she sings, dances and strums a ballad on her guitar.  She connects with the audience like no other.  It was pure genius to hand out bracelets with lights on them to the audience.  When she says, “I can see you dancing.  I can see you throwing your hands in the air,” she honestly means it.  She smiles and tells the crowd that she loves them and is so grateful that they decided to spend Saturday night with her.  It feels genuine and it is one of the reasons her fans are so loyal to her.  She never takes her fame for granted.

Since all of her concert stops are stadium venues, it is the biggest selling U.S. Tour in history.  She also performed in seven countries and sold over two million tickets.  Taylor goes through costume changes and performs huge production numbers with an army of dancers.  She travels in a cage over the crowd.   At one point, she plays an acoustic guitar while 105,000 fans in attendance sing along to every word.  There is even a 60-foot cobra that inflates during her performance.  When she speaks to the crowd, they cry and cheer her on.  She’s been though some painful relationships.  There is one ballad she sings titled “All Too Well” that is believed to be her messy breakup with actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

When many pop stars reach the level of success as Taylor, they begin to cut corners like lip sync their songs.  Not Taylor!  She belts out every tune with a smile on her face.  This is a monumental production that is perfectly choreographed.  One of the highlights is the song ‘Shake It Off’ with two other singers Camilia and Charli.  Other standout performances include “Gorgeous,” “King of My Heart,” a haunting “Don’t Blame Me,” a powerful “Bad Blood” and a crowd-pleasing “Blank Space.”  Not even a cold can keep Taylor from mesmerizing the crowd.  At one point, a backup dancer presents her with a tissue.  She apologizes to the crowd as she turns around to blow her nose.  She says, “I’ve never been handed a tissue with more… commitment.”  She is truly the consummate professional.

I’ve never considered myself a Taylor Swift fan.  The things that are impressive about her is the immense talent she possesses, the connection she displays to her fans on stage and the fact that she is a shrewd businesswoman.  Taylor made $266 million dollars on her Reputation tour.  The Netflix deal gives the streaming giant exclusive film rights to the Reputation tour concert footage.  The exact numbers of the deal between Netflix and Taylor is hush-hush but she was paid in the millions.  At the age of 29, she is in complete control of her career.  This brings her net worth to $320 million. She recently signed a new record deal with Universal Music Group that will allow her to own her own master recordings.  ‘Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour’ on Netflix is the chance for you to take a look at an entertainer at the top of her game.
